PORTAL Guidelines

PORTAL (Professional Ottawa Region Theatre Alliance List)

Mailing List Guidelines

**subject to change**

September 2009

PORTAL is a co-lingual, subscriber-based email list intended to disseminate information to the professional theatre community of the Ottawa-Gatineau region.  Anyone is free to subscribe, however the focus of the list will be on communications within the professional theatre community itself – as opposed to marketing to potential audience.

Postings may concern:

  • professional productions*
  • educational workshops
  • ticket discounts for professional artists/cultural workers
  • audition notices and job postings
  • resource sharing notices (e.g. space, props, equipment, etc. wanted or to offer)
  • meetings, fundraisers or other events and announcements related to the professional theatre community

Les messages en français sont également encouragés.

Only one posting per production / event.

Postings will be sent out in the language(s) they are received.

PORTAL reserves the right to refuse to send out postings which do not adhere to these guidelines, or which may be deemed offensive to our community.

PORTAL is a free service – there are no fees for subscribing or for posting.

Expected frequency of mailings – approximately three times per week, however each mailing may include several postings.

To subscribe to PORTAL, email portalpostings@gmail.com with SUBSCRIBE in the subject line.  You may unsubscribe at any time by sending an email with UNSUBSCRIBE in the subject line.

To submit a posting, email portalpostings@gmail.com.  You must be a subscriber in order to submit postings.

Many thanks to the Council for the Arts in Ottawa for sponsoring the translation of these guidelines.

*Definition of Professional Production: In the case of production companies or theatre collectives that do not engage artists under existing CAEA or UdA agreements, performers, artists and designers must be paid for their work, even if this payment takes the form of a profit-share or honorarium.

Ce document existe également en français.

    Hi Portail folks!

My name is Laura and my friend has recently written a play and myself and a bunch of our friends are submitting it to the lottery for the Ottawa Fringe in 2014

We would love to post about our piece and our company, Angel In The Rafters Theatre, on this website as we’ve had good experiences with this website. However, we’re a tad confused about the posting guidelines: “only one posting per production/event.”

Does this mean we can only post one thing about our piece, at all?

Because I know we’d love to post an open call for volunteers to help us out at fundraising events, and we’d also like to post about auditions, when we have them, and about our play itself, should we be selected to produce the play for fringe.

Are we allowed to make these posts, or are we only allowed to post once? Knowing this will help us move forward on this site accordingly.

    Thanks and take care!

~Angel In The Rafters Theatre team 🙂
